Before Use:

Pretreat new exterior hardwood and decking with Sikkens Cetol BL Tannin & Oil Remover.

In the case of old and weathered wood, remove excessive dirt with a stiff bristle brush. Only suitable for use on bare and previously oiled wood. 

Before Application, wet the timber to delay drying out during application. The surface must remain wet during the whole application process. Do not let the wood dry out with Sikkens Cetol BL Deck and Wood cleaner coated on the wood.

Applications:

Use Sikkens Cetol BL Deck and Wood Cleaner to brighten and revitalise grey, weathered timber in preparation for application of new timber coatings.

Stir thoroughly before use. Wearing suitable protective gloves, apply liberally with a brush or mop. The wood will start to lighten in colour.

Immediately after application, work into the surface of the wood, using a mild adhesive scrubbing pad or stiff bristle brush. Leave to stand until no further lightening occurs, but for no more than 15 minutes. Work manageable areas at a time so that the surface remains wet throughout the process.

Wash off with plenty of water using a hose, ideally using a power hose on a fan setting, until the water runs clear. Allow the decking to dry thoroughly before applying a suitable Sikkens coating (such as Sikkens Cetol HLSe Decking Oil).

In cases of severe weathering or highly tannin rich timbers (such as Merbau), the process may need to be repeated again before applying a topcoat. 

After Use:

Remove as much cleaner as possible from brushes and equipment before cleaning with water. Do not use or store in extremes of temperature or wet conditions. Clean up any spills while still wet. 

Drying Time:

Allow to dry thoroughly before applying a protective finish or topcoat. When using an oil-based system, allow to dry for at least 3 days.

Caution:

Do not apply in temperatures below 5 degrees C or if rain is likely before the job is complete. Protect any areas around the deck being restored to minimise splashes and staining. Avoid contact with grass or plants. If contact occurs, dilute splashes with copious amounts of water.
