Hi everyone! We have put together a helpful video all about changing pumps for Graco Sprayers. In this video, we explain how to change the pump in Ultra Max and Ultra Handheld sprayers, how to dismantle parts from the airless sprayers, what tools to use, and which pumps you should use for each sprayer, in a simple and understandable way. We’re pretty sure you’re aware of our range of Graco handheld sprayers. But you might be wondering, what is the purpose of using a handheld sprayer on a cord?  Handheld sprayers on the cord are very popular for exteriors and scaffolds. Meanwhile, a battery handheld is especially handy for painting ceilings. You can easily reach into tricky corners and then use a paint roller with an extension pole for the rest of the ceiling. Still unsure about the differences between the models? Don’t worry - you’re in the right place!

Graco Ultra Max  17N225

Replacing Pump 17P187

The Ultra Max is ideal for fine finish and for surfaces such as window frames and skirting boards. It is also handy because it can use both water-based and oil-based paints e.g priming, enamels, and give you a high gloss finish. Even more impressive is that it can handle hot solvents such as solvent-based lacquer. It provides a smooth and even finish regardless of hand speed with no thinning and coverage in just a single coat.

How do I change the sprayer’s pump?

Graco covers a 1-year warranty in which they will replace any faulty or broken parts  - but you can change the pump any time it may be necessary. Here’s the link to our video tutorial on how to easily change the pump for ultra handheld 17M362. All you need is a Phillip screwdriver to open the cover and a solid source of light to see what you are doing, especially if you’re working in a garage or dark, enclosed space. Watch our simple video for a full understanding of how to replace the pump.

Why do I need to replace the pump?

What are the benefits of replacing the pump? Well, since the pump is a single unit, by simply replacing it, you are left with an entirely new unit that is ready to perform at maximum efficiency. The pumps themselves have a cycle of 200L and Graco recommends replacing them after this cycle. Instead of throwing the gun away after this cycle, simply replace the pump and keep spraying for longer!
